The Above-the-Counter System is a hearing loop system that consists of a microphone and an amplifier / transmitter attached to a desk or small area. The amplifier transmits the speaker's voice or audio feed using a short range signal that can be picked up by a telecoil enabled hearing aid, cochlear implant (CI) processors and specialized hand‐held hearing loop receivers for individuals without telecoil compatible hearing aids. Unlike other counter loop systems, the audio loop is not installed under the counter or desk but in the structure of the Braille Hearing Loop sign. The Quantity required to be covered is determined by the BCC. Applications can be made for a reduced quantity of neckloops where Children are the primary users of the building as they are issued with their own personal receivers.
